Fantasy versus Reality
Big, bulky clothes will hide my figure.
No - they’ll also add pounds to it.
Prints will make me look bigger.
No - as long as the print is small.
Buying something a size too small will inspire me to lose weight.
No - it's much more likely that you'll never wear it.
Battling the Bustline
If you're large-busted, skip wide belts, avoid bulky knits, polo necks and details or accessories that fall to or accentuate that area.
Instead try:
• softly draped (but not oversized) styles in silk or polyester.
• simple V necklines without pockets
• dark colours on top, light ones on bottom
• a bright fitted jacket over a dark top
• wrap tops or dresses
• diagonal lines
• three-quarter or long sleeves
Taming the Tummy
If your stomach is not as flat as you would like it to be, skip tucked-in blouses, hipsters, cropped tops, skin-clinging or lycra fabrics and belted jackets.
Instead try:
• loosely fitting jackets with single-breasted buttoning,
• softly pleated pants.
• tunic tops and long line cardigans
• rouched or low-waisted fronts
• wrap tops and dresses
• empire line dresses and tops
• magic knickers!
Slimming the Bottom Half
If your hips and thighs are less than svelte, skip leggings, big patterns below the belt, hipsters, high waisted or narrow trousers, and never wear jackets that end at your butt.
Instead try:
• loose-fitting trousers
• slimline and longer jackets
• full or a-line skirts
• bottom half darker and plainer than top
• long flowing dresses
• tailored or fitted jackets
